“I believe that success comes in many forms and we shouldn’t see people for their disabilities – only their abilities.”

Kate Oliver is living proof that with determination and hard work, anything life throws us can be overcome.

At twenty, she was combining her career as a croupier in a top London casino with a passion for sport, enjoying football, netball and running. At twenty one, she was in hospital after a car accident left her with a severe brain injury and partial paralysis. Doctors told her she would never walk again.

Over the following months, Kate relearned how to eat, drink and talk. Then, in defiance of her diagnosis, she learned to walk again. And she didn’t stop there. In 2016, she cycled from London to Paris, then from London to Amsterdam under two years later, raising over £25,000 for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance – the charity which saved her life all those years before.

Alongside her work with The Ability People, Kate is a fundraiser and public speaker, and is truly passionate about helping organisations recognise people for what they can do, instead of what they cannot.
