
Workshop 1 – Understanding Disability
Outline:
•This workshop will enable your workforce to gain an increased understanding and confidence in employing and appreciating candidates with a disability. It can be used either as a standalone resource or as part of the series. •We will provide a rationale as to the benefits of having individuals with disabilities within your business, and the evidence supporting this. •The workshop is designed to meet the key aims in a collaborative workshop format to engage participants in a relaxed, honest and constructive manner.
Purpose:
•Many people will have heard of disability but not truly understand what it represents. This workshop will Improve understanding of what it means to be disabled and what it means to have a disability and the implications that has for an individual •We aim to challenge the stereotypes and gain a better understanding of the variety within individuals with disabilities and discover how differences that impact individuals can bring real strength to both the workplace and business as a whole.
Workshop 2 – Empathy in Action
Outline:
•This workshop will include a variety of activities that provide opportunity to experience disability via simulated impairment
Purpose:
•To gain empathy and appreciation to develop the confidence to interact authentically with people with disabilities and all demographics
Workshop 3 – “Is it OK…?”
Outline:
•This workshop will create a safe and non judgementalenvironment for attendees to ask TAP any questions on disability that they are not yet comfortable or confident asking.
Purpose:
•To build attendees confidence when interacting with people with disabilities •To remind attendees of appropriate use of language •To make attendees feel more comfortable in real life situations •To ensure attendees know when it is the right time to ask questions – “is your question relevant?”
Workshop 4 – Creating an Inclusive Environment
Outline:
•Opportunity for attendees to utilisetheir knowledge acquired throughout the previous workshops in this series to devise a plan of action to implement new strategies to ensure that their recruitment process becomes authentically inclusive with guidance from the TAP team.
Purpose:
•Attendees will reflect on where the recruitment process currently does not satisfy certain needs and be able to provide suitable alternatives to enable inclusion without sacrificing the integrity of the process or an individual’s experience •Ensure that a full talent pool can be explored through an equitable process giving confidence that the correct candidate is successful.
